Study Purpose and Process

The purpose of the study is to analyze existing conditions such as traffic counts, roadway capacity and overall functionality of the corridor as it exists today, and to establish recommendations for corridor improvements necessary to increase the safety and capacity of the roadway. The study recommendations are intended to accommodate forecasted project buildout traffic volumes and extended future transportation needs of the corridor.

Another element to the corridor study will focus on existing conditions of various infrastructure elements such as stormwater drainage patterns and conveyances, existing utilities, pedestrian features, and environmental issues. Right-of-way constraints associated with recommended improvements will also be a key element of the study, as it will dictate recommendations for any property acquisitions. In order to establish existing conditions for the corridor, a complete right-of-way and improvements survey will be completed.

Once all available existing data is obtained and analyzed, an engineering study will be completed, and will include detailed recommendations for corridor improvements. In conjunction with the study, preliminary engineering plans and a cost estimate will be completed, reflecting the recommended corridor improvements. County staff will then review the submitted study and preliminary engineering plans, and issue comments to Bussen-Mayer Engineering Group, Inc. The plans and study will be revised accordingly to incorporate County staff comments and will be resubmitted for "final approval" by staff.
