Interim Intersection Improvements
|
While the Hollywood Boulevard corridor study and preliminary engineering plans can be completed in the near future, completion of detailed final engineering plans, land acquisition for right-of-way and stormwater treatment, and the associated funding of the project will take a significant amount of time to complete. Brevard County recognized the need to provide relief at key intersections that could be accomplished much more quickly. Accordingly, Bussen-Mayer Engineering Group (BMEG) was authorized to prepare intersection improvement construction plans for the Hollywood Boulevard & Henry Avenue intersection, and the Hollywood Boulevard & Fell Road intersection. Hollywood & Henry Intersection The intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Henry Avenue is currently controlled by a 4-way stop condition. The conjestion created by this 4-way stop condition is substantial—especially during peak traffic times. In order to alleviate this situation, and provide for improved traffic movement and less travel delay, plans are being developed to improve the intersection. Generally, these improvements consist of installing northbound and southbound left turn lanes on Hollywood Boulevard, and installation of intersection signalization. Associated pedestrian crossing facilities will be installed at the intersection to increase pedestrian safety. The intersection project will involve complete repaving, installation of a closed drainage system (curb inlets and piping) and curb & gutter. It is expected that these intersection improvements will provide a significant traffic relief to the community and commuters who utilize the Hollywood corridor. |

Hollywood & Fell Intersection The intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Fell Road is currently controlled by a 2-way stop condition on Fell Road. Due to the heavy traffic volumes, delays are considerable for motorists attempting to access Hollywood Boulevard. Additional backups are experienced for northbound and southbound Hollywood Boulevard travelers attempting to make left turns onto Fell Road. |
