Project Background

The Hollywood Boulevard corridor (US 192 to Palm Bay Road) is a Brevard County-maintained major collector road located within the city limits of West Melbourne. This two-lane roadway suffers from considerable congestion issues at its intersections with US 192, Henry Avenue, Fell Road and Palm Bay Road. Hollywood Boulevard is a vital north-south transportation corridor; however, its capacity to efficiently move traffic has significantly diminished over the years. In 2007, Brevard County ("the County") awarded a contract to Bussen-Mayer Engineering Group, Inc. (BMEG) to prepare an engineering study and preliminary engineering plans for the 3+ mile Hollywood Boulevard corridor. Recognizing the need for immediate relief at key intersections within the corridor, the County authorized BMEG to prepare intersection improvement plans for the Hollywood Boulevard & Henry Avenue intersection, and the Hollywood Boulevard & Fell Road intersection. The plans will incorporate added northbound and southbound turn lanes, signalization, and stormwater conveyance improvements.
